Estero Veneers and Implants

Composite Fillings

There are typically two steps involved in the treatment of a cavity.

First, your dentist in Estero will remove the decayed portion of the tooth. Next, they will fill the void left with another substance. This overall procedure is called a filling. There are several options for the material that can be used for the filling, the most common choices being composite, teeth colored, or amalgam, silver, fillings.

Composite fillings are also known as tooth-colored filling since the material used in the filling can be closely matched to the color of your teeth. Tooth-colored fillings provide good durability for small to medium cavities, and the procedure typically involves removing less of a tooth than you would during an amalgam filling. They also are very well suited for placement at the front of the mouth, in highly visible teeth, because of their natural appearance.

When can a composite filling be used for?
  • Decayed tooth (i.e. cavity)
  • Chipped or broken teeth
  • Decreasing the gap between teeth

How it's done:
First the area surrounding the decayed tooth will be numbed, then the decay will be removed. A specialized substances will then be applied to the tooth to help open up the pores, allowing for a stronger bond to be created. The filling will then be applied slowly, in thin layers until complete. A special light will then be used to cure the filling, hardening it. The filling will then be smoothened, polished and contoured to fit your bite comfortably.
