A dental bridge is a false tooth used to fill a gap created by a missing tooth or teeth. Gaps in the teeth can be very dangerous to your oral health, and can result in teeth shifting or a painful change in your bite. Bridges alleviate this problem by using the surrounding teeth as anchors to hold the false tooth in place. Typically, porcelain crowns are placed over the surrounding teeth to help strengthen their bond in holding the false tooth in place.
How it's done:
Two visits to our Estero FL dental office are usually required to place a bridge.
At the first visit, the surrounding teeth may be filed down so that a crown can be placed over them. Following that, impressions or scans are taken of the area to send to a dental lab to create the final appliance(s). Finally, a temporary bridge will be placed to protect the teeth in the interim.
At the second visit, the temporary bridge is removed and the new bridge received from the laboratory is fitted and adjusted. Multiple visits may be necessary to check and adjust the fit.
